The German Centre for Higher Education and Science Studies (DZHW) is a non-university research institution funded by the German federal and state governments with headquarters in Hanover and offices in Berlin and Leipzig. The institute, with around 300 employees, is a national and international centre of excellence for higher education and science research. The scientific departments of the DZHW conduct basic and applied research on current and long-term developments at all levels of the higher education and science system.
Scientific journals, with their platform-like characteristics, facilitate scientific discourse and pre-structure this exchange accordingly. Inspired by the Open Science discussion, established practices are being questioned by new approaches, while at the same time the digitalisation expands the possibilities to disseminate diverse scientific outputs. This gives rise to new practices and procedures in the currently dynamically developing Open Science landscape, which, for example, complicates the monitoring and evaluation of new Open Access journals.
Against this background, the collaborative project indi:oa - Responsible Assessment and Quality Assurance of Open Access Publications Using Bibliometric Indicators funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) will analyse how bibliometric indicators are used in the assessment of primary OA publication venues in scientific practice and how OA officers can be supported in monitoring the Open Access landscape.
Research Associate (TVöD-E13, 65% - 100% depending on qualifications/activities) to work on the project and, if applicable, to further develop the overarching research topic at the Berlin office starting immediately for an initial period of two years.
You will be responsible for the design of quantitative analyses on bibliometric and publishing characteristics of Open Access and Closed Access journals by means of different databases and carry them out independently. In doing so, you will be in close, reciprocal exchange with the cooperation partner, the Library of University Göttingen. Depending on your qualifications, you will have the opportunity to take on further research activities to advance the outlined research topic, for example with regard to academic conferences, preprint repositories or new communication formats.
Then we would like to meet you personally. For further information, please contact Dr. Stephan Stahlschmidt (e-mail: email@example.com).
Please send your application documents (cover letter, CV and references) by 27.07.2021 (preferably as one single PDF file) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
