We are seeking expressions of interest from prospective Graduate Researchers to join the natural language processing group at The University of Melbourne as part of a research project into fairness and bias in natural language processing. The projects will involve development of novel machine learning methods which are both more socially equitable, as well as less prone to expose private data in the learned representations, drawing on techniques from differential privacy, adversarial machine learning or graphical latent variable modelling.

We offer a thriving research environment in a leading natural language processing research group. The University of Melbourne is consistently ranked among the leading universities in the world, with international rankings of world universities placing it as number 1 in Australia and number 32 in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020)
